This landlord is having an eye-opening experience about what his tenants live through each day.

Many landlords don't live in the buildings they manage, so they don't know what the day-to-day experience is like. When it thunderstorms, they aren't the ones putting buckets around the apartments to catch the ceiling drippings. When it's winter and the heat won't turn on, they don't get chilly, because they live in a separate building. And, as you probably know if you've ever lived in a landlord-run building, they will ignore a request to fix a problem until you literally tell them face-to-face that it needs immediate fixing.

  • The more tenants a landlord has, in general, the less responsive they're going to be. Like, if you rent a room from someone who lives in the same building, and you tell him your sink is leaking, he'll probably show up with a bag of tools in just a few hours. But if you tell the same thing to a landlord in a mega-apartment complex with like, 300 residents, you might have to watch that sink leaks for weeks before anyone comes around to look at it. 

    And while no apartment is ever perfect, some issues are bigger than others. Some issues become recurring problems if left unfixed, too! You have to pick and choose which apartment issues you're willing to live with, and which are simply a step too far.
